The company offered Chalupa Craving Box for free through its app.
The promotion caused large numbers of people to search for the site and the app. Starting Tuesday around noon, higher-than-normal traffic caused the website and app to crash.
“We know that our fans are passionate about our fancy food, especially the fancy food that makes a Tuesday a little more epic,” Taco Bell said in a statement. “This overwhelming excitement and high traffic are causing some technical difficulties. We are aware of the problem and are working quickly to ensure that affected fans receive the free $ 5 cravings box we promised. “
To get the deal, customers had to download the app and create an account. If you already had the app, you can simply pre-order and pick up at the drive-thru.
Usually $ 5 a box includes a sturdy 5-layer supreme chalupa burrito, crispy taco, cinnamon twists, and a medium drink.
But with the site down, many places were unable to honor the agreement, leaving customers upset.
The deal comes just after the company announced its new loyalty program.
The loyalty program will award customers points for qualifying purchases, according to Thrillist. When you reach 250 points, you will start earning rewards. And customers will receive a free Doritos Locos Taco just for signing up.
