Swipe left, Elon states: that Tesla dating app is a joke, for now

Despite several news articles that seem to suggest otherwise, a dating app just for Tesla owners is not real – at least not yet.

The brainchild of Canadian developer Ajitpal Grewal, the website Tesla Dating Co., says it’s an exclusive community of like-minded Elon-stans. You know, the kind of people that are really understand you. “The site asks for an email address and marks users” must prove Tesla ownership before launching. “Perhaps his tagline is the first indication that this is all meant to be in good fun:” Because you LOVE can not spell without EV. “

“Yes, the intent with the beginning of the site was parody, which I knew everyone else,” Grewal said in an email to The edge. ‘But, I also said that if I saw enough traction, I would take the apple to launch. So far I have seen quite a bit of traction. ”

That treat may be because Grewal told different media different things about his dating service before the launch. He is quoted in The Wall Street Journal to say that ownership of Tesla becomes a big part of someone’s identity: “Suddenly it struck me: These people would be perfect for each other.” It’s equal to what he said Business Insider. So maybe he did not spell out to everyone that the site started as (and mostly still is) a joke?

And the page looks … pretty real, including screenshots of what the Tinder-inspired app looks like (as it should be):

Tesla Dating Co.

To be sure, Tesla owners are a dedicated bundle, stand for CEO Elon Musk and hang on to his every tweet for details on upcoming features, new models, and anything that crosses his mind. My colleague Bijan Stephen described her dedication to the Tesla CEO in a 2018 profile:

Musk – the South African-born multibillionaire, known for high-profile, risky investments such as Tesla (electric cars), SpaceX (private spaceflight), the Boring Company (underground travel), and Neuralink (neurotechnology) – has the benefits of a culture in which fandom almost everything dominates. While his detractors see him as another out-of-touch, unworthy rich man who acknowledges the damage he and his businesses cannot or will not acknowledge, to his fans, Musk is a visionary to rid humanity of itself save

That it would make sense to try to pair up with some of these dedicated fans. Just remember that Tesla Dating Co. has no official relationship with Musk as the auto company, and that there is no apparent timeline for when the app might be available.

Grewal told The edge in an email that the page had 1,000 registrations per Friday morning. He says he has no plans to do anything with the email addresses he has practiced so far from the site, other than that he uses people to give notification if the app ever launches.

“While I have experience building apps, I have not launched anything on a scale,” Grewal added. “I’m open to hearing from anyone who is interested in helping.”

As for what car he drives, Grewal’s response was a bit surprising: “I would love to have a Tesla, but first and foremost, I like it with my zero-emission bike,” he said.
