Microsoft SwiftKey fans believe that their software keyboard is the best, but the Android version has undoubtedly lacked one nice snazzy feature that other keyboards like Gboard have: cursor control glide. Or, at least, that was true until today, because the last beta just grabbed the feature. And true to form, SwiftKey created syn version a little better than Google’s implementation.
Hold for a moment, then slide to move your cursor – anywhere on the keyboard, not just the space bar.
Unlike Gboard, Swiftkey’s cursor control slides you anywhere on the keyboard to move the cursor in a text field. You do not have to lock yourself in just the area around the space bar. And honestly, that’s kind of a smart move. You can’t see in two places at once, and I accidentally slipped the running menu on Gboard more than once outside the area.
There is one small caveat for those who come from Gboard, because the cursor movement is normal light unlike on Google’s keyboard. Instead of just sliding on the spacebar and moving your cursor immediately, you just have to hold or press and hold the spacebar a little, and then start dragging. After all, that difference is such that it does not interfere with SwiftKey’s language selector function, which allows you to scroll through the space bar to change languages.
This change seems to be the sum total of what’s new in the latest SwiftKey Beta release, and includes the entire changelog released in the Play Store for v7.6..24 (below). The feature also debuted for SwiftKey on iOS all the way back in January, although it has been a popular request for years.
