When Zlatan became a partner in Hammarby, buying 25 percent of the club’s shares, Malmö FF fans were enraged and at the same time Zlatan’s statue was smashed outside Stadion.
On Thursday, Zlatan took the next step in his engagement with Hammarby. He participated in training at Årsta IP in a green gym with the text “Get off” on his back.
The fact that the superstar, who had his breakthrough in Malmö FF, chooses to invest in Hammarby sparks strong feelings among various MFF profiles.
Kvällsposten has spoken to old MFF players to get their opinion on Zlatan’s entry into Hammarby, which has now carried over to the fact that he is also training the club, which is one of the best MFF competitors in all of Sweden.
Ingemar Erlandsson, 62, 258 MFF games 1976-1987, 69 A-country games:
– You will clearly be surprised. It feels strange and uncomfortable. But that’s the way it is.
– I understand that it bothers MFF supporters, because it also arouses feelings within me. But it should not have an expression like it did with the statue. So things have gone too far.
– If you have been associated with Malmö and MFF, I can understand those who keep our association on the heart warm.
– At the same time, it is Zlatan and his family who control this now that they have decided to settle in Stockholm.
– If you have children who are becoming active, it is natural to get involved in that association in some way. Children have the right to choose which association they want to play in, and Zlatan has to decide for himself how to do it, says Ingemar Erlandsson.
Jonnie Fedel, 53, 276 matches MFF 1984-2001, 2 matches A:
– Zlatan does what he wants. That’s his problem. If you want to train with Hammarby, you will be happy to. We focus on what we will do at MFF, says the goalkeeping coach.
– It’s not something I was involved in at all. I am excited about what we will do this season ahead. He will be a great Swede with many matches in a short time.
Tommy Hansson, 64, 85 matches MFF 1975-1981, 1 A-international:
– Of course you react. But I associate Zlatan more with the city of Malmö and Rosengård than with Malmö FF. It has meant a lot to Malmö as a city and to MFF financially. He only played 40 games for team A.
– If you have to speak MFF-heart, there are others that I place much higher. Rosenberg was clear: he was going home to Malmö FF.
– Zlatan loves creating headlines. The week before Rosenberg’s dismissal came the news of Hammarby. He wants to take the lead a lot at MFF. I feel like Zlatan wants to make friends with some MFPs.
– I’m not surprised if he starts playing for Hammarby. What that means in the long run is hard to see now.
– In soccer terms, Zlatan is outstanding. What he has done is fantastic. But MFF heart? No, I’ve never read it anywhere, says Tommy Hansson.
Kent Jönsson, 64, 211 MFF games 1974-1987, 5 A-country games:
– I grew up in an MFF spirit where you spent most of my life in Malmö FF, says the former center back who was part of the team for the 1979 European Cup final.
– It’s kind of strange that he started training with Hammarby. As an old MFP, I think I could sponsor the club in some way, perhaps with a donation to the youth business.
– I understand if it itches in many MFF hearts. But Zlatan does what he thinks is best, and goes his own way.
– I don’t know if this is an economic aspect. But you’ve probably made enough money, says Kent Jönsson.
Niklas Skoog, 45, 112 matches MFF 2001-2008, 9 matches A:
– If you look at Zlatan’s career, he has changed teams several times. That’s because he is really good. He wants to win titles and be the best he can be.
– Today is different compared to the past. So you had more connection with the city where you come from. That club feeling doesn’t exist today. Zlatan chooses what he wants to do. He always has.
– I still think Zlatan is proud of Malmö. At the same time, you have to understand it. You have to think about your own life and career.
“There are probably more people who envy his career than he is playing for Hammarby,” concludes Niklas Skoog.
