Last week, Sweden had 41 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Norway had 19. Sweden had 16 new deaths and 16 new intensive care patients. Norway two and one respectively.
– It achieved a greater diffusion in society in the first phase of the outbreak. You are still struggling with it. This means you have a larger substrate infection that is probably emerging now, says Frode Forland of the differences.
He emphasizes that there is more that unites the strategies of the two countries than what separates them and that cooperation with Sweden is good.
Forland: that’s why Norway is doing better
However, the director of infection control considers that some factors are important for the success of Norway:
In Norway, all 356 municipalities have their own infection control doctor. A national infection tracking unit with four teams supports small municipalities, assists with outbreaks across municipal boundaries, and tracks infections that occur through transport between municipalities or counties, and infections that arrive from abroad. . In Sweden, the main responsibility lies with the 21 regions and their infection control doctors.
Norway has fought local outbreaks with local restrictions: mouth guards in public transport, early nightclub closures, and stricter rules for crowds are some examples. It has been discussed in Sweden but has not yet been introduced.
Norway has a requirement that all people entering the country must be quarantined for ten days. Exceptions are made for countries in Europe and regions in the Nordic region that have had fewer than 20 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks. In Sweden, there are no such quarantine rules.
– You have an import infection in Sweden again. He has no action against what we have in Norway. You’re at a higher risk of having a bigger second wave, if you call it that. In Norway, we’ve talked about having several small waves, and that’s probably what we see now in both Sweden and Norway, says Frode Forland.
There is no other wave of corona infection in Sweden. In Europe, however, it is different.
