In recent years, Microsoft has actually built Xbox Game Studios, Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Playground, to name three, are some of the companies that have been acquired.

On Monday, it became clear that Microsoft-owned Xbox made another acquisition when it acquired ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, a deal that, according to Bloomberg, cost 66 billion Swedish crowns.

“Today is a special day as we welcome some of the best developers in the games industry to Xbox,” Phil Spencer, Xbox CEO, wrote in a press release.

“Bethesda games have always held a special place on Xbox and in the hearts of millions of gamers around the world.”

It owns some of the most important brands

This means that Bethesda Game Studios, Id Software, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, ZeniMax Online Studios, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studio are all part of Xbox Game Studios.

It remains to be seen if the next Wolfenstein, The Elder Scrolls VI, the next Fallout and Doom will be exclusive to the Xbox console. Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo are already exclusive to Sony and Playstation 5, whether this is still the case after today’s announcement is also unclear.
