The American women’s soccer team receives no less financial compensation than its male counterparts. That message left a Los Angeles court recently, dismissing the national team’s claim of hundreds of millions of dollars against its own union. Now the team chooses to appeal the verdict.
– Equal pay means that you pay the players for both earnings and men. The argument that women get enough when they get almost the same amount, even though they earn twice as much, doesn’t mean equal pay, says Molly Levinson, a player spokeswoman.
The players had demanded $ 66 million (equivalent to SEK 650 million) in compensation for gender discrimination in the years 2014-2017, but the court ruled that the compensation is calculated in different ways, and that the differences in pay for party were reasonable.
