The violent assaults took place in five different locations in Vetlanda. The first one inside the Press Office at Resecentrum on Bangårdsgatan in the center of Vetlanda. The man then continued to Greta’s florist in Storgatan and further to Willys in Vitalagatan.
A man that DN spoke to recounts how he saw the suspect pass by on the way to Mogärdeskolan, where the police arrested him.
– I recognized him because I had met him before. When I left a few minutes later and went to Greta’s flower shop, I saw an ambulance take away an injured person. Fifteen meters away I found a light purple handle for what appeared to be a stained kitchen knife, lying in a flowerbed. I perceived them as blood, says the man.
The man contacted the police who took over the handle of the knife.
When the man arrived Kyrkogatan, not far from Mogärdeskolan, caught up with the police. Films of the arrest show police firing a shot at the man, who is then pushed to the ground. Several people listened and saw what happened:
– I walked right through the door when I heard a knock and I thought it was coming from inside our apartment, but when I looked outside, there were many police cars with about ten policemen and an ambulance. When we looked outside, there was a man on the sidewalk, he was very still. They then took him to the ambulance, says a woman who lives about 100 feet from where the man was shot.
Several people DN spoke to said the suspect is in his 20s and is usually at the Travel Center. It was also there, in the Press Office, that the first attack took place.
