Wilma Andersson, 17, disappeared without a trace on November 14 of last year.
On November 19, her ex-boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of murder and serious battery.
It took nine days
Although several traces of blood were found early in the couple’s joint residence, it took until November 28 before police, with the help of specially trained German dogs, found a suitcase in a closet in which the head of Wilma was wrapped in aluminum foil.
Other items, such as sweaters, stuffed animals, and underpants, were also found in the bag.

Wilma disappeared on November 14.
When asked how it could take up to nine days, prosecutor Jim Westerberg says that crime scene investigations require great precision.
– You go from one room to another and secure one track after another. In that situation, no part of the body was sought since there were no signs of it, but a violent crime. They just weren’t looking for a body part, but tracking was essential. Instead, they searched for the body outside the apartment, he says during Wednesday’s press conference.
Body not found
Police Chief Sten-Rune Timmersjö also maintains that the technical examination of the house was very comprehensive.
– Especially in this situation when you do not know what has happened, the techniques must be very careful.
The 23-year-old ex-boyfriend was charged Wednesday with murder and serious assault. He has always denied the charges.
The rest of Wilma’s body has yet to be found.
“The suspect for an unknown reason retained a part of the body and removed the rest of the body,” says Police Chief Sten-Rune Timmersjö.
Clear traces on kitchen knives
According to the prosecutor, the 23-year-old girl murdered Wilma by exposing her to “repeated blatant violence.”
– It is clear that people have cleaned the apartment to hide traces of blood and there are clear traces on a kitchen knife, says Jim Westerberg.
The ex-boyfriend is also suspected of removing Wilma’s body. According to the indictment, it was obtained in “one or more still unknown places.”
Evidence cited by the prosecutor also includes text conversations in which the ex-boyfriend must have been jealous.

“The neighbors have heard screams”
When Wilma’s relatives did not contact her, they visited the couple’s shared home, so the ex-boyfriend told him that he and Wilma had quarreled and that he had finished it.
Wilma should have left the house.
– You have maintained that explanation during the preliminary investigation, says Jim Westerberg and continues:
– Man is the person who last saw Wilma in life. Neighbors have heard screams from a woman at the time.
Although the body has not been found, Jim Westerberg believes the ex-boyfriend may still be convicted of the murder.
– It would have been significantly better if we could have said what the cause of death was at 100 percent certainty. But it is possible to convict a person for murder despite not knowing for sure.
