He thought they were creating a life together.

But secretly, his girlfriend Maria is said to have taken a loan and signed a subscription in Williams’ name. She also tricked him into paying $ 300,000 for a condo that wasn’t hers.

Now the 28-year-old is home with his parents in Huddinge with a million-dollar debt and a drastic plan.

– I have nothing left in Sweden.

Little shih tzun Ludde wraps himself around his legs and is carefree like only dogs and children can be. But about the house William, 28, rests something gloomy.

– Ludde is the only thing I have left of our relationship. But even he wants to access it. Maria reported me to the police and claimed that I stole the dog, she says.

It has been almost exactly a year since everything exploded and Maria disappeared. But at Williams’s parents’ home in Huddinge, south of Stockholm, traces of her still remain.

– We call this “his pile,” says Papa Per and points to a packet of demand letters and notices that are on the table in the living room.

Some time ago, another reminder came that William is still in the middle of a nightmare. Then a man from the service knocked on the door and told him that an e-commerce company was planning to take him to court.

– This applies to an invoice totaling 45,000 for goods you have ordered. There are many such cases. But I will not pay. It’s your fault.

Borrowed 300,000

William and Maria met at the tavern. She worked at the bar, he was there as a guest.

– We change numbers and then we start meeting. I think I fell in love pretty fast. We were both at the age where we wanted something more serious. Or at least that’s what I thought.

After about six months, William and Maria moved in together.

– He said he borrowed money from his grandparents and bought an apartment. It costs 1.8 million and I would pay him 300,000, he says.

William took out a loan and transferred the sum to his girlfriend. She drew up a contract that he signed, but he never saw that document again.

– In hindsight, I have come to realize that we should have handled this through the bank. But I trusted her. Of course, I am sorry today.

– It is a bit difficult to explain how it could be as it was. But she was very assertive and manipulative.

Been in jail

Over time, other oddities began to appear. There were agreements that William did not sign and obligations of the lenders that he never had anything to do with. William believed that someone had stolen his personal information. He blocked his bank ID, but the letters kept coming.

Maria also accompanied him in several strange horse shops. William paid large sums for the animals she trained and then resold them.

– But then he came up with many excuses. I never got money back.

In connection with a trip abroad, Williams’ father, Perana, began to think that something was not right. An acquaintance helped him look up Maria in an online legal database. The result was ice inside.

– It turned out that she was convicted of a lot of fraud and was in prison. I called William immediately and told him I would come here, without taking Maria with him.

William believed that he and Maria were creating a life together. In fact, she cheated on him.

“I took a loan with my cell phone while I was sleeping”

William realized immediately that it was all over. However, he decided to pretend he was nothing for a while, hoping to try to get back the 300,000 he entered the house with.

But during a conversation with the president of the association of tenants and owners, the next blow came: the apartment was not hers.

– It was someone else who owned it. She had rented it second hand.

At the same time, Williams ‘parents’ mailbox began to fill with window envelopes.

– He must have sneaked in here at regular intervals to guard the letters. Because what William learned was only a fraction of everything that came, says Mother Anette.

– I found a pile of borrowed papers that he hid behind a closet.

Together, they began to piece together everything that had happened during the barely two years that William and Maria had been together.

– It’s very scary. She must have seen it when I entered my bank identification code, and then she took out a loan with my mobile phone at night when she was sleeping. She also took cell phones and other things that she asked for in my name when I was at work, says William.

He hasn’t heard from his ex-girlfriend since she demanded to get the dog back last fall. She has reported the extensive fraud to the police, but investigators have been silent for a long time.

In total, Williams’ debts amount to more than one million crowns. He works full time as an electrician and spends much of his free time contacting lenders and debt collection companies. Despite this, the 28-year-old has no hope of solving the situation.

– I plan to move my sister to the United States. I’ll never be able to start over in Sweden, he says.

– My life is completely ruined. I was naive, but I could never believe that someone wanted to hurt me so badly.

The defense: everything is a lie

Maria denies Williams’s accusations when Aftonbladet contacts her.

– I haven’t done what it says. That’s not true, she says.

What about the apartment deal and the money he says he paid you?

– Probably the police who should contact me about it in that case. I think this is very strange.

William says you ruined his life. How does it feel to hear something like that?

– It is difficult to answer because it is not really as it says. I want to wait until the police contact me.
