If the countries of the world do not collectively do what is required, the world could reach not just one million, but two million deaths from COVID-19, according to WHO’s head of crisis preparedness Michael Ryan.

In total, nearly a million people have died from Covid-19 since the pandemic began earlier this year. During Friday’s press conference, the WHO’s Michael Ryan was asked whether it was conceivable that twice that, two million people, could die in the pandemic.

– Are we prepared to collectively do what is necessary to avoid that figure? If we don’t take those steps, well, then we will see that number and sadly much higher numbers. If we don’t do everything, that figure is not only conceivable, but sadly highly likely, Michael Ryan responded.

So far, at least 984,068 people have died after testing positive for COVID-19, according to the AFP news agency. More than 32 million people have tested positive for the virus.
