The factories of the old town are the venue that the ruling Alliance in Gothenburg has found for the presentation on Friday morning of the proposed budget for 2021.
Overall, this $ 34 billion budget doesn’t contain much drama:
Given that government subsidies linked to the pandemic have risen significantly and since up to 1.8 billion of the so-called compensation reserve is used, which is intended for temporary decreases, there will be no direct emergency brake on operations next year.
Alliance line for The entire mandate is to “just” increase welfare allocations by 1.5 percent annually and SKR’s August forecast speaks of a relatively low 1.8 percent overall cost increase in 2021, the adjustment this time it will be marginal.
At the same time, the need for investment is enormous, especially in schools and care. For this reason, the Alliance wants to continue selling municipal properties that are not considered necessary, and there we can count on a continuous ideological struggle.
Multiple individual investments however, it is included in the budget:
● 150 million for security measures
For moderates, continued investment in security is critical. In August, the first municipal security guards came out, in the squares around Nordstan.
Now the Alliance wants to expand them to patrol Avenyn and Järntorget as well. This part receives 50 million in the budget. The so-called “Safe in” model in the various districts receives 60 million for things like field workers and deserter activities.
Women’s shelters and monitoring of illegal activities also receive increased funding.
● Great investment in the Museum of Art
The Götaplatsen art museum is a landmark building in the city and the latest research showed that the necessary renovation and expansion can cost 725 million.
The other day, the Liberals announced that the budget gives the green light to a large municipal investment, but that private funds are also required here.
● The anniversary bathroom will receive an extra 60 million
One investment being announced by the Center Party is that, however, in 2022 the famous Jubilee Bath will open on the Göta River.
In the budget, the Alliance is pushing for 60 million to close the gap that has arisen in the financing of the four saltwater pools since it turned out that the income from the exploitation of Frihamnen is not enough. Of the 347 million that the entire so-called Jubilee Park would have to cost this spring, it was suddenly only 141 million. Therefore, you want to cover yourself with money from taxes.
But: Expect this topic to be the subject of political controversy.
● More money for the archipelago
For Christian Democrats, more money for the Gothenburg archipelago schools and public toilets has been important in budget negotiations.
Since the student base is small on the islands, it has been difficult to allow special support for students in need. Now two million are being added for this purpose.
An eight million “archipelago talk package” also includes funds for freight transportation and a penny for restaurants and cafes to keep their restrooms available to the public.
In little more than a week presents its budget proposals to the opposition. It is to be hoped that the Social Democrats will attack the proposal by demanding that in practice an employment ban be introduced for services that are not “on the ground”, at the forefront of welfare.
Attacking the “bureaucracy”, in administration and management, will also be a central issue for the Democrats in their counterproposal.
Fix: An earlier version of the text indicated the wrong amount reserved for security measures.
