Very high levels of PFAS have been measured in water in an industrial area in the municipality of Halmstad. Municipal drinking water in the area is not affected, but those who collect their water from their own well in Trönninge, which is close to the industrial estate, are advised not to drink this water and not give it to their animals until no more samples have been taken.
In total, around 80 households are affected by the recommendation.
Drinking water with very high levels of PFAS for a long time is suspected of increasing the risk of negative health effects.
PFAS (perfluorinated and polyfluoroalkyl acids) is a collective name for a group of synthetic substances, which are used, among other things, in the impregnation of clothing, the treatment of surfaces, the cleaning and the extinguishing of foams for petroleum fires and fuel.
