Recently, corona infection has increased considerably in the Östergötland region, which was heavily affected in the spring.
On Friday, the region held a press conference on the situation.
– After the summer, we have carried out around 700 tests per day, and so far we have had quite a low number of positive results, around one percent, said the president of the regional board Kaisa Karro (S), reports P4 Östergötland.
But now the trend has been reversed, depending on the region.
“Slow but steady climb”
– What we see now in Östergötland is a second wave of spread of the infection, said Kaisa Karro.
Britt Åkerlind, the region’s infection control physician, says the rate of positives began to rise rapidly after Sept. 24, and that before that, about one percent of tests were positive.
Since then it has continued to rise to just over 10 percent.
– That with just the other path, it’s really indefinable. But the Östergötland region has seen a slow but steady increase over the past two months, Britt Åkerlind tells Expressen.
She says there have been outbreaks in various parts of society. In different groups of staff, in special accommodation and at the university.
– I can think that the best measure is how many people we have in hospital care. There we go down to two and now we are up to ten. And it does not recede, but increases slowly. So I think the picture along with all these details together says that we are sadly on our way up.
