During the morning of Thursday, it blew between 15 and 20 meters per second in the villages of parts of Västra Götaland.
– At the same time, there will be huge amounts of snow locally and the temperature is around a degree higher, so I can imagine it’s pretty wet snow, says Therese Fougman, a meteorologist at SMHI.
– This, in combination with the wind, probably means that it can be tricky in traffic and problems with drift formation.
SMHI has expired with a class 2 warning for snowfall in Bohuslän, Dalsland and Värmland. In much of southern Sweden, there is a class 1 warning for snow, which means it can fall down to a decimeter.
– Winds and snowfall will spread to the east during the day. But already in the afternoon it will probably turn to rain in Götaland, but also in the southeast and west of Svealand, says Fougman.
The weather has caused the cancellation of departures on several lines during the morning of Thursday. Those affected are, among other things, the sections between Uddevalla and Strömstad, Varberg / Herrljunga and Borås, which are completely canceled over the next 24 hours and replaced by buses. All traffic on the Kinnekulle line has been canceled, but trains between Herrljunga and Gothenburg still run on the western main line.
– There are also interruptions in bus traffic, especially in Gothenburg and Partille, where it has been slippery. Many delays and some lines have had to cancel certain routes, says Ellen Pileblad from the Västtrafik press service.
In the western Swedish police the snow was noticeable in traffic on Thursday morning.
– They have landed and are in the ditch here and there, in Bohuslän and Halland and Gothenburg. We may have around 10 exits so far, but no collisions and more serious accidents. But there will probably be more during the day when everyone hits the roads, says Ann-Christin Löfstrand, an officer on duty in the West Police Region.
The E45 north of Säffle was closed for the morning, after a truck skidded at 06:00 and was left with the trailer on the road, reports SVT Nyheter Värmland. A car entered the truck, but no one was injured.
Another truck has skidded and is stupidly stopped in a right turn along County Highway 167 Lilla Edet.
– There may be some traffic impact there, but there is a police patrol on site and directing traffic, says police spokesman Fredrik Svedemyr.
Just before 9 a.m., police received an alarm that two cars had collided on Highway 40 near Ulricehamn.
– There is no information on serious injuries, the police and the ambulance are on their way there.
The snow rises over Norrland on Friday, but then slows down.
– There is probably still some precipitation left over Götaland and Svealand, but it will calm down on Friday, says Therese Fougman.
