A 100-year-old man in Kungsbacka was duped by scammers and now an elderly couple in Farsta have been hit by a similar fraud.

– It’s a similar way, says one of the Stockholm police technicians who worked at the crime scene.

The forensic technician now wants to get the attention of others and warn the scammers.

Aftonbladet was recently able to tell about a 100-year-old man in Kungsbacka who was the victim of fraud.

Soon after, a couple, aged 93 and 94, suffered a similar fraud in Farsta, south of Stockholm.

One of the Stockholm Police forensic technicians investigating the crime in Farsta reacted to the fact that the approach was similar.

Now he wants to warn other older people and tells them how the crime is suspected.

– A person calls them and pretends to be a policeman. He says a mailbox was robbed and bank information on this couple is said to have been stolen, the technician tells Aftonbladet.

The person must have been very nice and talked for a long time, like half an hour.

– Says the police want to catch the people behind this alleged robbery.

Wear mouth protection

In order to do that, the fake police say over the phone that they need the older couple’s bank card.

– He says they can put the bank cards with codes in an envelope and leave at the nearest police station. But he also offers to come pick up the envelope, which then also happens, says the forensic technician.

Then two people, wearing mouth guards, come, call and collect the envelope. Then they go to the nearest ATM and withdraw all the money.

– The police never take a bank card and never ask for PIN codes, says the forensic technician who now wants to warn everyone about scammers.

The message: Don’t give codes

He says that crime is very difficult to investigate.

– They have not entered or left footprints and they are wearing mouth guards.

The only possibility might be to watch surveillance video from ATMs, but if the perpetrators are masked, there is a risk that it will not work either.

The forensic technician repeats:

– The police never confiscate cards in this way. Neither do banks. Never reveal your bank cards and PIN codes.
