When Sara Wallin was at the splash pond in Kungsladugård with her son Arvid this summer, she wondered why there are no more similar water wells in the city. That marvel resulted in a Gothenburg proposal for a splash pond at Slottsskogen.
– It’s the only thing missing from the park on hot days when you don’t have a car and don’t want to be crowded by bus or tram to Askim or Saltholmen. It must be possible to swim even in the city, he says as Arvid searches for a bench by the lawn in front of Björngårdsvillan.
Sara Wallin is supported by her friend Karin Larsson, who brings her one-year-old son Ebbe with her.
– It’s a great idea to have a place to cool off with young children where it is not a project to reach, says Karin.
Sara Wallin has tipped friends and acquaintances and posted to various online groups to collect votes. At the time of writing this report, it has 65 votes left up to the magic limit of 200 votes, which would mean that the proposal goes to the next step in the process and is discussed politically.
More they want more water
A proposal for a splash pond in Biskopsgården is also among Gothenburg’s proposals at this time, and currently has more than 300 votes. There, greater emphasis is placed on water habits.
“For children to get off to a good start in lifelong learning, it is important to have a positive relationship with water, which is a prerequisite for being able to learn to swim. Water habits are the basis of good swimming and good swimming technique “ writes the sender.

There are more Gothenburg proposals at the moment that apply to different types of swimming in the city. Earlier this year, the park and nature committee hid an outdoor swimming pool on the Göta river in Färjenäs due to poor water quality and too high costs.
But now a proposal for a cold bathhouse in Färjenäs is being considered. He states that “the project is intended to elevate the Scandinavian cold bath tradition while introducing new bathing rituals in an environment that promotes recreation.”
Another suggestion is one about adventure swimming at Angered. Proponents want the existing arena to be expanded with indoor and outdoor pools, but also other water attractions like slides and streams. So far, that proposal has garnered exactly 200 votes.
– We are a coastal city and we have had quite a long discussion about swimming and swimming pools in Gothenburg. You may be missing a nearby bathroom facility. We may need water all around us, says Stefan Lydén, a democracy promoter in the administration of consumer and citizen services in the city of Gothenburg.
Many dog farms
Since the opportunity to submit Gothenburg proposals presented in 2017, almost 850 proposals have been submitted, of which 162 have received enough votes to move on to the next step. To date, 30 decisions have been made on proposals that will be fully or partially implemented. Among them are solar park, dance floor and artificial grass. But surprisingly many of those who entered, up to 28, have been in kennels in different parts of the city.
– When someone has started to make a good proposal linked to a site, there are others who see it and think “but we also want that in East Gothenburg”. Hundrastgårdarna is probably the clearest example of that, says Stefan Lydén.
Something that there have been many before, however, are the proposals linked to Västlänken, but according to Stefan Lydén, they are now significantly fewer. Among the 65 who are currently collecting votes or receiving treatment, nothing is related to Västlänken.
– In Högsbo, where I live, someone else may be needed, no one is around. They are ideal for socializing dogs with other dogs and other people. It is good to activate them, it calms them down a bit.
