Wallace after the debate: I’ve never seen anything like it

– I’ve read some reviews and I know people wonder, jisses, why I didn’t intervene earlier. “I didn’t realize – it was impossible without looking back – that it was the president’s strategy not just for the beginning of the debate but for the entire debate,” Chris Wallace told the New York Times.

Fox News-journalisten he had been praised in advance for his well-read and neutral professional skills, but as soon as the debate began, he put himself to the test. Trump constantly interrupted him and Biden with distracting smiles and comments.

During the more than an hour and a half debate, there was also an avalanche from Biden, but the general perception is, like Wallace’s, that the president was the main culprit in turning the event into a tumultuous spectacle with no further guidance for insecure voters.

– Sorry how it turned out last night. He never would have dreamed he would go off the rails like that, says Wallace, who gradually grew increasingly concerned about the event, after which he began to appeal that the candidates would be just as good at following the agreed rules of debate.

Wallace says he felt despair when he rarely said that “the nation would be better served if we allow both of them to speak with fewer interruptions.”

Commission for Presidential Debate Debates (CPD) has announced that they will review the rules prior to the next two televised debates. One suggestion many have discussed is turning off the microphone for those who do not have the floor.

– The president could still have interrupted, even if his mic had been muted and he might as well have been picked up by Biden’s mic. People should also remember that both candidates have the support of tens of millions of Americans, says Wallace, adding that he later engaged in a self-examination.

– In general, I did the best I could, so in that sense I do not regret anything. I’m just disappointed with the result for my part, but more importantly, I’m disappointed in the nation. It could have been a much more nutritious evening than it was.
