The riot started at 7pm when outraged participants blocked Amiralsgatan in Västra Kattarpsvägen and Scheelegatan.

They blocked traffic, launched fireworks, and lit Bengals. The police first considered the case as a simple disorder.

– We see a connection with the fact that a Koran was being burned in the area earlier that day, says Rickard Lundqvist in the police.

The fire took place on a bike path in the Emilstorp industrial zone, outside Rosengård, and was organized by the Danish xenophobic party Stram Kurs.

The images of the films were posted online.

Hours earlier, Stram Kurs party leader Rasmus Paludan was unable to enter Sweden and burn the Koran in a public place in Malmö.

The police broke up a small demonstration in Stortorget. Behind the request for the demonstration was street artist Dan Park, himself convicted of incitement to an ethnic group.

Several people were attended

During the Amiralsgatan riots, the police stopped traffic. A first person was arrested and taken to the nearest police station for questioning.

During the night, several more people were seen.

The protesters threw stones and eggs at the photographers who were doing their job. Debris and car tires were set ablaze in the middle of the intersection and thick black smoke billowed into the sky.

They shouted slogans and “Allah is great.”

At 8:45 p.m., a large group rushed in and temporarily forced the police and the media to back down. No police or private was injured.

Violent riot

By 9 pm, the situation had worsened and police described the incident as a violent riot.

Then a large crowd had dispersed from Amiralsgatan and fire was burning at the intersection.

The situation was uneasy in the area and objects were thrown at police personnel.

At the same time, several cars had caught fire in various directions in the area and a fire was breaking out in an underground garage. Police did not know if the fires were related to the unrest that was taking place.

On the way downtown

At 10:30 p.m., the protesters appeared to be on their way to central Malmö.

Then the police blocked the Amiralsgatan – Östra Farmvägen intersection, four picket cars with the first police were pushed back under a shower of stones.

But the situation changed after four riot busses arrived and chased the protesters.

The intersection was full of cobblestones and smoke, says Maria Rydhagen from Kvällposten, who was on site.

Shortly after 11 pm, between ten and twelve police pickets chased the entire group back towards Rosengård. No one should have been injured during the riots.

At half past two on Saturday night, traffic could be allowed on Amiralsgatan again.

Muslims were ashamed

On Facebook, Muslims lamented the unrest, were ashamed of the behavior of their fellow believers and claimed that anger over this could affect all Swedish Muslims.

Imam Samir Muric wrote:

Threw the towel. I am free from this. I have nothing to do with these people. I am ashamed. The Swedish people don’t deserve this. “
