In Los Angeles, 49.4 degrees were measured on Sunday and while the heat is expected to die down a bit in the coming days, there is talk of record temperatures in California for the season.

At the same time, 24,000 firefighters fight fires of varying sizes across much of the state. One of them, El Dorado, was started in connection with a “gender reveal” party, a party to reveal the gender of a child.

More than 1,000 wildfires have been recorded since August 15, most of which started due to lightning. More than 3,000 buildings have been destroyed by the fires and eight people have lost their lives.

It started unusually early

The largest fire, Creek Fire, has burned about 78,000 acres and is occurring in northern parts of the state. According to the US authorities, it is still out of control. As recently as Sunday, 200 people were rescued from the forest fire, after being trapped.

And now the fires are spreading rapidly.

– It is alarming how early the fires started this year. September and October are historically the worst months for fires. It’s usually hot and dry, Lynne Tolmachof, a spokeswoman for the California rescue service, tells the BBC.
