Täby is one of the areas where the number of minors suspected of violent crimes and drugs has increased. There are a total of 113 open cases in which the suspect is under 18 years of age. Bosse Pan is the leader of the preliminary investigation in the police youth group in Täby.
– Only the pure amount has increased, and what makes it build is that there will be more serious crimes that will take longer to investigate, says Bosse Pan to Ekot.
Suspects of violent crime and drugs are also getting younger.
– We have had 12-year-olds suspected of robbery, we have some 12 to 14-year-olds suspected of drug crimes, continues Bosse Pan.
Increases every year
Since 2016, there has been an annual increase in violent and drug crimes, where the suspect is under 18 years old. This is a trend that looks set to continue this year as well.
In 2019, there were nearly 27,000 violent and drug crime suspicions with one lesser suspect.
“Serious organized crime”
Tove Werner Pettersson, a police officer for the Täby youth group, has close contact with the school and social services. She also testifies to development.
– We have never seen these numbers like now, so something happens. A couple of years ago, it was a unique occurrence if we had a youth robbery. This spring we had about 20. It may sound a bit, but in our area it is not because we have not had that type of crime here, he says.
