A protester was arrested during a protest against sexual violence in India on Tuesday.

A 19-year-old woman who died from her injuries after a gang rape was cremated against the will of the family. This has sparked further protests in various places in India.

Four men have been arrested for the gang rape, which took place in a field near the woman’s home in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on September 14. She died from her injuries on Tuesday.

According to the family, the police seized the body and incinerated it in the middle of the night.

“We asked them to perform the last rituals in the morning, but they did not listen to us and did it themselves,” the 19-year-old’s brother told Reuters.

– They allowed us to sit behind the barricades that they had erected with the help of the police. We couldn’t even see our dead sister’s face.

The crime has sparked strong emotions in India, which has since been rocked by protests against sexual violence and increased rights for people belonging to the Dalit caste, sometimes also called “casteless”.
