Växjö played another home win at SHL ice hockey. As the icing on the cake, the Smålanders also fixed Luleå’s third loss in a row.
– We have scored points in many games, there is strength and calm, Växjö coach Sam Hallam told C More after the 3-2 victory.
Spring 2018 Växjö played the club’s second and most recent Swedish Championship gold at home in superb style. It has been heavier since then, but a strong home game so far this fall indicates the team is possibly on its way back to the top. Luleå, supreme winner in last season’s SHL, was the next task to break Växjö’s ambition to extend the winning streak at home.
Norrbotten’s guests, on the other hand, had ambition to find the winning track again after two straight losses. An early and bizarre goal when the puck made its way through a rear thigh gave Luleå a great start.
– Not all hockey goals have to be beautiful, said striker Karl Fabricius in a break interview on C More.
Luleå looked more animated initially.
– We were in the place, agreed Karl Fabricius.
But soon Växjö took over the game and fed off the shooting galore against David Rautio in Luleåkassen. A seasoned scorer for the home team, defender Ilari Melart, drew five-on-four in the game.
The landscape of the game in the second period meant a change of roles: the home team started stronger, but then Luleå increased the pressure in the attack zone. However, Växjö scored the only goal of the period.
– Good luck and coincidence. Of course very nice and important, said Robert Rosén about his successful management in a break interview on C More.
Halfway in the third period, Luleå drew 2-2, a goal that came in the five-on-four game where Niklas Olausson was the last away player on the puck.
The decision came with 4.13 left when Växjö entered a two-on-one position. The decision to shoot himself rather than pass made Robert Rosén a two-goal shooter and a match hero.
