Västra Götaland region is reducing covid-19 testing

– It is unfortunate, but fast response times are essential to detect and stop the chains of infection. We are working determinedly with a number of future solutions to further increase capacity and we hope this will be a temporary measure during this week, Jan Kilhamn, regional coordinator for covid-19 sampling, says in the press release.

Depending on the region, the demand, despite measures to increase sampling capacity, is greater than what the laboratories handling the tests can handle. The call to reduce the number of tests by 25 percent has been sent to all health centers in the region.

30,000 tests per week

The region concludes the press release by saying that starting next week it should be possible to further increase the analysis capacity and that it will then catch up and the reduction in the number of tests will be a thing of the past.

During the month of September and early October, around 20,000 were tested in the region. Now that figure is around 30,000. The reason more and more people want to be tested is the increasing spread of the infection in society as a whole and in Västra Götaland.

Stronger advice

Recently, stricter general guidelines were introduced in the region aimed at reducing the recent spread of the infection, which has been described as powerful. The stricter advice means, among other things, that you should refrain from staying indoors such as shopping malls and stores. You should also refrain from meetings, concerts, sports training, matches and the like where many people gather. The public is also urged to refrain from all physical contact with other people, with the exception of family.
