17 of the 20 vat places are occupied, as well as 67 of the 80 places for hospital coviditis in the region, reports Västerbottens-Kuriren.

The agreement means that the normal working hours of health personnel can be increased to 48 hours a week. Additionally, emergency overtime may be taken. Covered individuals receive compensation of 220 percent of hourly wages.

– We have exhausted all other alternatives to face this increase in the spread of infection and, above all, the increase in the burden of hospitalized patients, the president of the regional board, Peter Olofsson, told the newspaper.

Those affected are mainly the VAT staff of Umeå and Skellefteå.

– We think it’s great, our members are already working really hard to get regular compensation. Now they are given the opportunity to earn much more money for the hard work they put in, says Jenny Olsson, department head of the Västerbotten Health Association for Swedish Radio P4 Västerbotten.

The crisis agreement can be activated by the municipalities and regions of Sweden (SKR) and Sobona (employers’ organization of municipal companies). The deal has previously been activated in Gävleborg, Jönköping, Skåne, Stockholm, Uppsala, Kalmar and Västra Götaland.
