Vaccines are unlikely to protect for long

Following the positive news from pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and Moderna, the whole world is waiting for an upcoming corona vaccine.

At the same time, several questions remain about the vaccine, including how long they will protect against the virus.

Sweden’s vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström says the vaccine is unlikely to provide lifelong protection.

– We only have a few vaccines that are really effective throughout life, such as against measles. Others must be recharged, such as the travel vaccine. Therefore, it is more likely that you need to strengthen the effect of this, he tells the newspaper.

Can be affected

Some experts believe that the vaccine will protect for at least a year. Others wait several years, Bergström says.

Matti Sällberg, professor and biomedical analyst at the Karolinska Institutet, also believes that it is possible to influence the term of protection. The theory is that it would be possible to combine different vaccines.

– You can definitely imagine that first you take Astra, then Johnson & Johnson to finish Kantinos, that all three are based on the same technology, he tells Expressen.
