– It’s fantastic, now it’s happening !, says Richard Bergström who adds:
– We see a mobilization in the regions and we hope to start in as many places as possible on the 27th.
On Monday evening, the EU Medicines Agency EMA approved Pfizer / Biontech’s vaccine against covid-19 and yesterday the government announced that vaccination in Sweden will now start on Sunday, December 27.
Sweden will receive an initial delivery of approximately 10,000 doses this week, after which approximately 80,000 doses will be delivered per week. First in line for vaccination is nursing home accommodation, which is in line with the Public Health Agency’s prioritization scheme, where those in greatest need should be able to participate in the vaccine first.
After that, vaccines will expand rapidly and the plan is for all adults and children in the risk group to be offered the vaccine during the first half of 2021.
Logistical challenge
Richard Bergström admits, however, that vaccinating the entire Swedish people is a task called duga.
– I have respect for the challenge our regions have to organize this, he says.
The vaccine is sensitive to heat and will therefore be delivered to Sweden in specially built freezers and will also be stored in 21 large, called cryo-freezers in the country.
Not worried about mutations
Richard Bergström further states that he is not concerned that the vaccine will not bite into any coronavirus mutation, as it has a very strong antibody defense.
– So even if we have one, two or three mutations, it probably won’t affect the effectiveness of the vaccine, he says.
Very allergic must wait
As many as possible should be vaccinated, says Richard Bergström. The only people who might have to wait with the vaccination are those with a severe allergy.
– Those who know that they have a severe allergy, and who may even have an adrenaline pen at home, may not have to be vaccinated in the first place, if they do not belong to a risk group, he says and adds that for that group it is developed precisely. now new types of antibody drugs.
He urges anyone who hesitates to get vaccinated to have an “open mind” and perhaps to talk to friends and acquaintances if they are concerned. A vaccine may also be required to be able to do certain things in the future.
– For example, the vacation trip that was not taken last year.
