Statistics taken by TT show that the number of police complaints so far this year amounts to just over 1,251 compared to 1,607 the previous year, but above all, claims for damages have been drastically reduced, from 81, 1 million SEK to 52.5 million SEK so far this year. .
– What we have done this year is that we pay more attention before payment to make sure that there are no incorrect amounts. Since we stop payments from the beginning, the person will not be responsible for reimbursement, says Britt-Marie Hultström, head of the department working with control issues at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.
Stopped payments
This has meant that payments of SEK 38 million have stopped so far this year, which is SEK 7 million more than in 2019.
Just cheating Vab has been a big problem where the worst sinners have tried to cheat around half a million crowns. In some cases, Försäkringskassan has also had trouble getting the money back and therefore the work has intensified.
– We have had a preventive effect where we do not see this system in the same way, says Britt-Marie Hultström about the worst cheats.
Other challenges
However, the authority struggles to a greater extent with other challenges, including when it comes to assistance benefits. So far this year, there have been 250 police reports compared to 140 in 2019 and to be able to avoid incorrect payments totaling 175 million SEK compared to 70 million SEK the previous year.
– We have focused more on this and investigated many more cases. In addition, we have also focused on controls for benefit payments introduced in connection with the corona pandemic, says Britt-Marie Hultström.
This includes the costs of sick pay that employers must report to the Swedish Revenue Agency. The Swedish Social Security Agency has carried out inspections of some 500 companies.
The result: just over SEK 7.2 million in recoveries and avoiding incorrect payments.
– We did not find much that is linked to organized crime. The industries that stand out in our checks are taxis, restaurants and accounting firms, says Britt-Marie Hultström.
