US ambassador leaves Sweden prematurely

Ken Howery has been an ambassador to Sweden for a year when he was appointed by President Donald Trump.

Wednesday night I wrote Howery on Twitter that he has resigned and will step down on January 20, the same day Joe Biden will be sworn in as the next president of the United States.

“Working as the United States ambassador to Sweden has been the greatest honor of my life,” he writes.

Embassy spokesperson Bill Martin tells DN that it is completely in accordance with the minutes that the ambassador leaves his post:

– It is completely normal for an ambassador to present his request to resign, this is something that is asked of all political employees every four years. Part of the natural process. The ambassador was very satisfied with his time here and is very grateful for it.

In an interview with DN on December 21, the ambassador was asked if he thought the result of the presidential election was correct.

Howery then replied:

– I am not involved in the political process. So it doesn’t really matter what you think. We have institutions that can handle this, he responds and points out that the voters have already elected Joe Biden.
