Fredrik Sund believes that autumn will be worse for Swedish healthcare than it is in spring. A second wave of the coronavirus in combination with accumulated care debt this spring is putting a lot of pressure on care staff.
– They worked really hard and didn’t really get the vacation weeks they needed. Then when fall started, we took on this care debt, so the care staff is much more tired now than they were last spring, says Fredrik Sund.
Stricter advice is not followed
Uppsala was one of the first regions in Sweden to introduce stricter recommendations due to the pandemic. Fredrik Sund believes that if they have had any effect, it is too early to tell, even if he has doubts that people will follow them.
– We have seen these weeks that the restrictions are not met. With such a spread of the infection that is happening now, it is as if in Sweden we are in free fall.
It can be curfew
You want to see more powerful restrictions.
– What is now is too toothless.
You mean curfew like in Spain or Italy?
– So serious measures may be necessary. We talk a lot about timing and I think now we have the opportunity. In a few weeks, I think it will be ineffective.
Fredrik Sund points out that they are his personal opinions and not what the Public Health Agency or his region thinks.
