One UN soldier was killed and another seriously injured when an explosive device exploded near a military vehicle on the outskirts of the northeastern Mali city of Kidal, according to UN force Minusma.
A teacher living in the nearby town of Anéfis claims that Egyptian soldiers were hit when a landmine exploded while escorting a convoy of goods.
Sweden has about 150 UN soldiers based in Gao, further south. The Armed Forces inform TT that no Swedes were involved in the incident outside of Kidal.
Mali has long been plagued by ethnic and jihadist motivated violence, as well as the ravages of criminal groups.
Since 2012, northern Mali has seen an increased presence of Islamist groups that have since spread to the central parts of the country, as well as neighboring Burkina Faso and Niger.
Minusma has become one of the most dangerous UN operations in the world, with more than 220 killed during its service.
