According to an Ethiopian document, the UN will have access to reach the vulnerable in Tigray.
The UN gains “unhindered” access to Ethiopia’s Tigray region to deliver emergency aid.
According to a document, Ethiopia and the UN have agreed that the UN will be able to reach vulnerable populations in the Tigray region and neighboring Amhara and Afar in a safe and unrestricted manner.
The document must be signed by the Ethiopian Minister of Peace.
Thousands have died and many have fled to neighboring Sudan during the fighting that began on November 4.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed then ordered an offensive against Tigray, which was partly autonomous. The federal government justified its military intervention in Tigray by saying that the Tigran People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) carried out a deadly attack on government soldiers. TPLF says it is not behind any attacks.
Some 600,000 Tigray residents needed help even before fighting broke out. In addition, there are shortages of food, fuel and cash, as well as partly medical equipment.
On Saturday, the Addis Ababa government announced that the offensive was over.
