Umeå police warn of scammers posing as police officers.
On Saturday, an elderly woman was called by a woman posing as a policeman. The woman is said to have claimed that the person’s bank account was being emptied.
“The old man receives a number with which the police must identify himself. Then a young woman knocks on the old man’s door and identifies herself as a policeman and enters the code that the old man received over the phone. Later it turns out that the old man received a larger amount withdrawn from his account, ”the police write on their website.
According to Henrik Vernerlund, an officer at the police command center, anyone who receives similar calls should call the police immediately.
“If someone comes in and claims to be a police officer and wants to have access to codes or the like, they should call 112 immediately. Those who have older relatives should speak with them about not revealing information about their accounts or the like,” writes Henrik Vernerlund , police command center officer, on the police website.
