It was a good year for Swedish cinema at the prestigious Sundance American Film Festival, which ends today. The festival, which normally takes place in Park City, Utah, went completely digital this year and on Tuesday night praised former Gold Bag-nominated director of “The desminer” Hogir Hirori. He was awarded the Best Director Award for his hot new documentary “Sabaya”, which is about the fight to save Yazidi sex slaves from IS.

The Danish-Swedish animated documentary “Flee”, directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, was also the center of attention when it won the Grand Jury Prize. In the same category, World Film Documentary Competition, there was also the Swedish documentary “The World’s Most Beautiful Boy”, which was met with appreciative reviews after the world premiere at Sundance. The film, signed by Kristian Petri and Kristina Lindström, revolves around the complex life story of teenage star Björn Andrésen since she broke into the film classic “Death in Venice” in the 1970s. Ninja Thyberg’s “Pleasure”, which takes place in the porn industry, was also noticed and praised during the festival.
