On Thursday, the president held a private meeting with some of the campaign’s donors. The meeting was held at the Nashville Marriott hotel in Tennessee, and Trump is said to have raised concerns there before the Senate election.
Republicans today have a majority in the Senate, with 53 seats to 47 for Democrats.
– I think the Senate is difficult indeed. The Senate is very difficult, Trump said, according to the Washington Post.
– There are a couple of senators that I can’t really get involved with. I just can’t do it. You lose your soul if you do. I can’t help any of them. I don’t want to help any of them, he continued.
The party denies
In a comment to the Washington Post, the Republican National Senate Committee denies that Trump had a bad relationship with the senators.
Spokeswoman Jesse Hunt cites the Supreme Court election as an example, stressing that the Senate is “ready to confirm” Amy Coney Barrett in the coming days.
“The Republican-led Senate and President Trump have had a great partnership for the past four years,” Hunt told the newspaper.
