There will be no oil drilling off the Florida coast in the next few years.

US President Donald Trump is extending the ban on offshore oil drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, as well as along the Atlantic coast to Georgia and South Carolina.

The stop will now apply until 2032.

“This protects its beautiful bay and its beautiful ocean, and it will do so for a long time,” Trump said.

Trump initially wanted to allow oil drilling in the area, but was met with strong opposition from property owners, the tourism sector, and the environmental movement.

Florida is an important state of affairs in the upcoming presidential election, where Trump and opponent Joe Biden have equal support, according to an NBC / Marist opinion poll.

“Just a few months ago, Donald Trump planned to allow oil and gas drilling off the coast of Florida. Now, with 56 days to go, he has appropriately changed his mind. Incredible,” Biden wrote on Twitter.
