Trump in Kenosha: You have to be tough

Upon arriving in Kenosha, Trump praised the federal National Guard troops he sent there and the relative calm that ensued after their arrival.

– You have to be determined, you have to be tough and you have to be strong. And he must be willing to stop people, says the president.

Clearly, Trump came to town intending to repeat his severe law and order mantra, while opinion polls show he is closing in on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden ahead of the November presidential election.

The president visited, among other things, a furniture department store that was seriously damaged by the riots, as well as the headquarters of the National Guard troops that strengthen the police in the city.

The visit came to an end despite the fact that the governor of Wisconsin and the mayor of the city, both Democrats, said that the best thing for the local order would be that Trump did not come.

Defend the shooter

Kenosha has been rocked by protests against police violence against blacks in the last week. A little over a week ago, the black Jacob Blake was seriously shot by the police. A few days later, the situation escalated with the arrival of activists, riots and looting. Two protesters were shot and killed by the now-arrested, incarcerated 17-year-old.

Before leaving for the city, Trump said the 17-year-old acted in self-defense and likely would have been killed by protesters had he not opened fire on them.

– He tried to get out of them. . . And then he fell and then they attacked him very violently. I guess he had big problems. . . They probably would have killed him, Trump says.

Prosecuted for murder

The 17-year-old will be charged with two murders, his lawyer says he will claim in court that the boy acted in self-defense.

The president says he will not be meeting with Blake’s family during the visit to Kenosha.

Trump wants to crack down on widespread protests against police violence that are taking place in various cities across the United States. An attitude criticized by Joe Biden.

“Tonight, the president refused to deny the violence. He does not even want to distance himself from one of his supporters who is accused of murder,” Biden said in a statement.

New liaison office

Trump, for his part, believes that violence will increase if Biden wins the November presidential election and that the presidential candidate capitulates to a left-wing mafia.

“In America, we will never give in to the mafia, because if the mafia wins power, democracy is really dead,” Trump said.

To investigate what Trump calls unrest from the left, the country’s Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security will establish a joint liaison office, the president said.
