Trump Governor: Don’t Travel to Kenosha
“What if”. Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers joins party comrades who have already called on US President Donald Trump to cancel Tuesday’s visit to the riot-ravaged city of Kenosha.
Demonstrations against discrimination and violence against blacks in Kenosha, Wisconsin this weekend.
In a letter, Evers writes that he and other local leaders are concerned about what a presidential visit would mean for the small town in the southeastern corner of Wisconsin and that it would consume police resources.
Kenosha has been rocked by protests against police violence against blacks in the last week, after Jacob Blake was seriously shot by police just over a week ago. A few days later, the situation escalated with the arrival of activists, riots and looting. Two protesters were shot and killed by a 17-year-old man now arrested with a semi-automatic weapon.
In the middle of the week, Evers asked the Republican president for help, who then sent federal police and more National Guard soldiers to Kenosha.
Wisconsin is one of the major wave master states where it sits and weighs between a Republican majority and a Democratic majority and where this fall’s presidential election will be decided.
