The tours in the hunting crime complex around Karl Hedin have been many and tangled and began in late October 2018.
After a period of recognition, the police raided and arrested four people suspected of, among other things, a serious hunting crime. According to the prosecutor, that day a wolf was hunted, but no animal body had been found.
Police tracked the suspected hunters through a clue and had worked with the investigation for several months prior to the arrests. The group was suspected of illegally hunting and killing bobcats and wolves.
Among other things, the police had used secret wiretapping to reveal the illegal hunting. After all the suspects were released after about a month in custody, Karl Hedin reported prosecutor Lars Magnusson to the police.
The police report referred mainly to the interception carried out against the suspects. According to Hedin, the prosecutor had committed misconduct when he used the measure because the value of the penalty for the crime was not high enough to justify it.
However, the report against Lars Magnusson was dropped by the special prosecutor’s office.
Karl Hedin, 70, is a well-known profile in the business world. He is the owner of the AB Karl Hedin wood products group, which, among other things, runs a chain of trade in construction, sawmills and refining forests.
He has also emerged as an active debater on the wolf issue, a critic of the persecuted predator policy, and an advocate for a reduced wolf population. He has lectured on this subject and has written several books on the subject.
The main hearing in the case is scheduled to begin on February 22.
