A large number of trees in the old Malmö cemetery have been damaged, Sydsvenskan reports. The magazine counts 27 bark-damaged trees along Cemetery Avenue. The event was highlighted on Christmas Day.
During the fall and winter, some 40 trees in Malmö’s parks have suffered similar damage.
The police investigation service in the southern region is not aware of a police report on the latest damage. Press spokesman Rickard Lundqvist says police generally do not prioritize investigating vandalism.
– It is sad when you commit vandalism in such a place, but vandalism in itself is a crime with a lower penalty scale, it is not something to which we are going to put any extra resources. We have not done anything special to be able to process it, it is very difficult to know when it will happen next in a city like Malmö, says Lundqvist.
