The accident happened at 5:21 p.m., according to the Västtrafik emergency service. A car on line 5 and another on line 8 collided.

The accident caused a significant disruption in rush hour traffic. All public transport through Korsvägen was stopped and diverted to other sections. Lines 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 13, as well as several bus lines, were affected. Car traffic was also blocked at the scene of the accident.

At least one of the cars derailed. The rescue took a long time, only at 9:40 p.m. did the traffic flow normally again.

Five units were withdrawn from the rescue service, along with the police and the ambulance.

A tram passenger was taken by ambulance to Sahlgrenska hospital with back pain.

An hour after the accident, there was still a lot of traffic noise in Korsvägen, according to police spokesman Peter Adlersson.

There were several other stops in tram traffic on Monday afternoon. This caused severe delays in all public transport in central Gothenburg in the afternoon and evening.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear. The police have no suspicions of crime.
