In connection with detailed planning work by the Möllebacken preschool, an environmental and geotechnical study of the area was carried out late last year.
It didn’t give a result then, but the new samples now show elevated levels of substances like PAH, lead, barium, and mercury in some parts of the preschool grounds.
When the result came in on Monday, the grass and gravel areas around the preschool were closed “to bring the safe before the unsafe ones,” the municipality writes in a press release. Now the indoor air will also be tested and the municipality is looking for alternative venues where children and staff can stay in the meantime.
– The preschool will continue to keep children off the preschool lawn and take precautionary measures until alternative locations are found, says Torsten Berg, head of preschool activities in Karlshamn municipality, in the press release.
