The municipality of Vetlanda has brought together the crisis management and summoned the posom group after the attack on Wednesday afternoon. The president of the city council describes the work as drudgery. – That’s probably the best word. Shocking and unimaginable. This is how it can be summed up, says Henrik Tvarnö (S).
Police are guarding the place in central Vetlanda where a man attacked several people with a shelter on Wednesday.
The municipal board met on Wednesday afternoon when the information began to arrive that something happened.
– But we still didn’t know what and to what extent. We soon realized that it was a big thing. We decided to organize the meeting as soon as possible and we tried to get together and find out exactly what had happened, says councilor Henrik Tvarnö.
When it became clear that this was a “really serious incident”, crisis management was called in, as was the posom group, an acronym that stands for mental and social care.
On Thursday evening, he spoke with Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) and Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S), as well as several county councilors.
According to Tvarnö, the initial work has consisted of obtaining information about what really happened, which is not the easiest thing since both the police and the medical care are full of investigation and attention efforts.
– The work continues (on Thursday) to gather information and see what we can do from the municipality to be a support for all who need it, he says.
For now, he expects schools to be open as usual on Thursday.
“We keep all our thumbs up so the wounded come home alive, that is by far the most important thing now,” says Tvarnö.
The event in Vetlanda occurs at the same time that the municipality, like the rest of the world, is fighting the pandemic.
– It will be more difficult to find us, to have those meeting points for people who need to talk about themselves, because we run the risk of getting infected. So you must remember that this is an urgent event that needs to be handled. We are such a small city that everyone here will have some kind of connection to this, even if you are not a close relative, you will work with someone who is, or you will play football together, says Henrik Tvarnö.
– It is a whole municipality that one way or another will wake up and have this very close.
