When the corona virus closed its borders in April, it sent a shock wave through Thailand, which is heavily reliant on tourists. The country has survived the pandemic relatively mildly with 3,634 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 59 deaths, but is financially worse off. In one fell swoop, many hotel and restaurant jobs disappeared and the tourism industry has warned of losses equivalent to around 450 billion SEK.
