The cruise ship with at least 128 virus victims on board joins the port of Montevideo.

After two weeks of uncertainty, the cruise ship Greg Mortimer, with about 130 people infected with the coronavirus on board, has been added to the port of Montevideo in Uruguay.

The Australian ship has been anchored offshore since March 27. During that time, eight people were brought ashore and taken to the Montevideo hospital for intensive care.

There are 217 people on board and, following an agreement, 112 of them, passengers from Australia and New Zealand, will be sent home.

Passengers must be transported through a police card to a special airport terminal. From there, they will be transported by specially chartered plane to Melbourne on Saturday. Most have been positive for the corona virus and will remain separate from those who are not infected during the journey.

The “humanitarian corridor” does not include passengers of other nationalities, but will remain on the ship until they are negotiated with their home countries. Among them are Americans, British, Jamaicans and people from different European countries, the Uruguayan foreign ministry said.
