Today, the first people in Sweden are vaccinated against the corona.
Hopefully after a year that has hit the Swedes hard, according to Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.
– But that does not mean that the danger has passed.
The United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and China have already started getting vaccinated against the coronavirus. Today is Sweden’s turn. The first delivery, which will be enough for two doses of the Pfizer and Biontech vaccine for 4,900 Swedes, arrived in the country yesterday.
In the regions of Sweden, several people will receive their first syringe today. 425 doses will be sent to the three metropolitan regions; the rest will receive 200 doses each.
Prime Minister Stefan Löfven writes in a statement that the vaccine is a light in the dark, after a year of testing.
“A year ago, covid-19 was unknown. Vaccination against covid-19 begins today throughout Sweden and in the EU. It is a good note for science and humanity,” Löfven writes.
Sweden will receive approximately 80,000 doses per week starting next week.
Initially, the elderly, risk groups and care and nursing personnel are vaccinated. The goal is for the entire adult population to be offered vaccinations during the first half of 2021.

Wait a little more
“The vaccine will reach every corner of our country, to the big cities and towns, villages and skyscrapers, north, south, east and west”, writes Löfven and continues:
“The coronavirus has affected us as a country and as human beings. Many have passed away, even more have lost a dear friend, family member or colleague. People have become unemployed and many have seen their life’s work disappear as a result of the economic consequences of the pandemic. The health and assistance personnel have been working for a long time ”.
Vaccination brings hope, writes Löfven.
“But that doesn’t mean the danger has passed. We must continue to follow the recommendations of the authorities, such as keeping our distance, washing our hands. We will endure and persevere, a little more ”.
