– It will be one more tool for customs, says the Minister of Finance, Magdalena Andersson (s), who has control over customs legislation in the government.
Today, there is a possibility that Postnord will be ordered by Swedish Customs to keep a letter or package if it is suspected of containing some kind of drug. It is not possible for arms, unless there is a decision of a prosecutor, says the Minister of Finance.
On a team council recommendation The government therefore proposes that the Swedish Customs can use the so-called postal barrier if a shipment is suspected of containing weapons, ammunition or explosive products.
– I myself was in customs and I heard that there are parts of weapons in packages and that they are concerned about that, says Andersson and points out that customs now have the opportunity to save those packages.
It is also proposed that the rules apply to so-called courier companies such as DHL, UPS and similar parcel providers.
Actors will also be required to inform Swedish Customs if they suspect explosive weapons or goods will be in the shipments they handle.
