German Chancellor Angela Merkel at Wednesday’s press conference.
The sharp rise in corona infection paralyzes Germany and now Angela Merkel faces tougher restrictions.
– I am convinced that what we are doing now will be decisive to overcome the pandemic, says the Chancellor.
Late Wednesday night, the message that many had been waiting for also arrived. Germany tightens the rules of the crown.
After discussing with the 16 state leaders of the country, Chancellor Angela Merkel presented the stricter new rules.
Restrictions on how many people can meet at the same time are introduced and are now 25 people in public settings and 15 in private settings. If the infection worsens, they threaten further restrictions, restaurants, among other things, run the risk of being allowed to close before 11pm.
New higher daily figure
Under the new rules, the use of mouth guards will also be mandatory in places where it is difficult to maintain distance in areas that register more than 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants during a period of seven days.
– We can see that the contagion rate is increasing and that it is very high in some regions, says Merkel after the eight-hour conversation whose objective was to achieve a more uniform strategy against the corona pandemic in the country.
The issue of domestic travel is said to have been the most infected. The current rules do not allow Germans in risk areas to stay overnight in hotels in regions with fewer infections.
Merkel says the ban will not be changed and will not be discussed until November, after the autumn break in Germany.
On Wednesday the highest daily number of new cases of infection in the country, 6,638. A total of 341,000 people in Germany have been infected. 9,710 people have died.
Attached to restrictions
Several other countries have introduced or marked stricter restrictions in recent days.
The new stricter rules for the Netherlands went into effect on Wednesday night. Restaurants, bars and cafes are kept closed and mouth guards are mandatory in closed public places for anyone over 13 years old. Also, the sale of alcohol is prohibited at night.
Before the shutdown, reports from various cities about bar parties came to an end.
In France, Spain and Northern Ireland, among others, stricter restrictions will be introduced in the coming days.
