A new blockade has entered into force in Lebanon, where residents now have to stay at home for eleven days. By imposing a 24-hour curfew until January 25, the government hopes to be able to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Before the new restrictions went into effect, hospitals reported that places of care for covid patients were starting to run out. In recent days, Lebanon has taken record notes on the number of new covid cases and the infection curve is one of the steepest in the world.

Under the new rules, everyone without a job deemed absolutely necessary must stay home and grocery stores will only run out of products. It has raised concerns about food shortages in areas not covered by home deliveries, and in recent days Lebanese have flocked to stores to replenish their stocks at home.
