Thousands of winter lights are now on in the city.

– It feels very important to light up Gothenburg this year and it feels good to be able to start earlier than usual. Light makes us feel good and creates security in the city. Something that shows in the dialogue we had with citizens and actors, says Madeleine Rexius, Gothenburg & Co coordinator for Julstaden, in a press release.

On Friday, thousands of candles are lit in Gothenburg, including in Järntorget, where the cherry trees will be decorated with Christmas lights, but also in Brunnsparken, where last winter’s big red heart of Lejontrappan is making a comeback.

The lighting won’t turn off until February 21 of next year.

– In addition to lighting up the city, we are working hard to be able to offer Gothenburgers a beautiful and safe Christmas city this year, of course based on the advice and recommendations given by the city and the Public Health Agency. More information will be coming soon, but it will be very bright and the subject will be the heart, we can reveal it now, says Jennie Heidenfors, project manager at Gothenburg & Co, in a press release.
